Apsley

The latest design I have featured in The Knitter magazine (Issue 128) is Apsley. This is a simple, fitted ribbed cardigan knitted in a really lovely yarn – Fibre Co.’s Cumbrian Fingering. The design is enhanced by the addition of a frilled cuff, made from a shaped and textured edging.

The yarn is a blend of fibres – brown wool from English Masham sheep, with a fine mohair  – which gives the colour a lovely, soft muted effect, and makes the knit soft to handle and nice to knit.

Once again, the name the design has been given – Apsley – was not one that I knew much about, although I did think there was an Apsley House somewhere! Having looked online I now see that there is indeed an English Heritage house by that name, and it is situated here in London! It holds the Wellington Collection, a collection of paintings and other treasures given to the first Duke of Wellington after Waterloo.

I think I should now make a visit!
