Butterfly dress

Butterfly dress

Butterfly dress is a delicate, romantic, lacy slip dress knitted in fine mohair yarn with a scattering of small glass beads knitted in.

The dress was first designed for Rowan in 2005 and has been one of my most popular designs. It has been made several times as a wedding dress! (see Ravelry)

The dress is knitted in a simple lace pattern on relatively large needles. It has a double frill at the hem (knitted lengthways) and a simple neck edging and straps. The beads are threaded onto the yarn at the beginning and a chart is provided for the lace pattern and bead placement.

Yarn: The dress is knitted using Rowan Kidsilk Haze –  70% mkid mohair/30% silk mix fine lace yarn (210m(230yds) per 25g ball).

Sizes & yarn quantities: The pattern gives instructions for sizes 32 – 40ins (81 – 102cm) bust, using 3(3:3:3:4) balls of the main colour yarn and 1 ball of contrast colour (for the under-frill)

Tension: 17sts and 24 rows to 4ins (10cms) using 5mm (US 8) needles and lace pattern

Needles etc: pair each of 3.25mm (US 3), 4.5mm (US 7) & 5mm (US 8) knitting needles. Approx. 1000 x 3mm glass beads
