Lace rib stockings

Inspired by knitted stockings of the 1930s and 40s, these thigh-high stockings can also be worn as long socks. They are knitted in the round on 4 needles from the top rib downwards and have a pretty ribbed lace pattern and shaping at the back. There are eyelets in the top rib for a decorative ribbon.

Yarn: The stockings are knitted using Patons Fairytale Dreamtime 3 ply wool 230m/252yd 50g

Sizes & yarn quantities: The pattern gives instructions for one size – 3 balls yarn – but the leg and foot lengths are easily adjusted

Tension: 32sts and 44 rows to 4 ins (10cms) over stocking stitch

Needles etc:  set each of 4 x 3mm (US 2/3) and 2.75mm (US 2) double-pointed needles; 1.80m of narrow silk ribbon
