Magazine catch-up#2

Following on from my last post…….

In March this year, The Knitter issue 213 featured my design Celsiana, a classic raglan over-sized jumper, but with a fancy shaping stitch at the armholes, and a buttoned opening.

The stitch interest is repeated at the bottom, and the jumper also has front pockets. The ribbed collar can be worn buttoned and high, or left unbuttoned.

The jumper is knitted using Cygnet Pure Wool Superwash DK.

Next – in July The Knitter published Romilly, a small, triangular neck scarf knitted in a lace design, with an added lace edging. Knitted using West Yorkshire Spinners Exquisite Lace the scarflet/shawlet can be worn in a variety of ways, and adds a bit of warmth and a flash of colour to an autumn outfit!

Lastly, this month The Knitter issue 220 published Rievaulx, a modular scarf and hat set. As usual, I’m not sure why the name was chosen by the magazine, but I note that its a derelict monastery in York, which I’m pretty sure I’ve visited!

The scarf is made by knitting each square from the outside edge inwards. When it is completed, stitches are picked up from one edge, and more are cast on and the next square is knitted. The pattern gives instructions for knitting in blocks of squares, which are then joined on completion.

The idea for the scarf and hat knitted in squares, was to use a variegated yarn that changes throughout, so each square is different. The yarn used was Malabrigo Arroyo, which is beautifully soft and drapey, and makes a fabulous warm and cosy scarf and hat!
