Beaded Cape

Beaded Cape

This pretty beaded cape is ideal as a glamorous cover-up for parties, summer weddings – or even over a wedding dress!

The cape is knitted in 4ply wool in sections, with a chart to show bead placement. It is finished off with a knitted cord neckband and tie – but a satin ribbon would look lovely too!

Yarn: The cape was originally knitted using Rowan 4ply Soft (100% merino wool, 175m/191yds per 50g ball). This is no longer available, but any 4 ply yarn with a similar meterage would work. Rowan’s Finest (50% extra fine merino wool,30% alpaca, 20% cashmere, 87m/95yds per 25g ball) would be good.

Sizes & yarn quantities: The pattern gives instructions for 2 sizes – 32-34ins & 36-38ins/81-86cms & 91-97cms bust. Both sizes need 3 x 50g balls (or 6 of Rowan Finest)

Tension: 28sts and 36 rows to 4ins (10cms) over stocking stitch using 3.75mm (US 3) needles.

Needles etc: pair of 3.75mm (US 3) knitting needles & two 2.75mm (US 2) double-pointed knitting needles (for neck tie); approx 1540 (1760) x 3mm glass seed beads in a mixture of 3 colours; 24ins/60cms of 1in/2.5cm wide petersham ribbon (for front edge facings); optional 60ins/1.5m of 7cm wide satin ribbon (for neck tie)
